Important Information

As per Govt. order and preventive measures against Coronavirus, all classes are suspended from 17th - 31st March 2020. But learning will not be interrupted as each mentor will continue to reach out to their mentees. Students are encouraged to approach their mentor through WhatsApp/phone in case of any difficulty in their studies.

Since 2012, Biotech Hub has been established with funding from the Dept. Biotechnology (New Delhi). The Hub has been established to serve as a platform for teaching and undertaking research. Hands-on training and teaching are given to students as well as faculty members on the latest techniques in biotechnology. A number of outreach programs have been conducted for Higher Secondary School students. The Hub is functioning smoothly and is being used for research works by teachers and also for conducting practical classes. Facilities of the Biotech Hub include PCR Machine, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, High Speed Centrifuge, Gel Electrophoresis kits, etc. and several accessories for conducting basic routine experiments.

This centre is sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi vide sanction letter No. BT/22/NE/2011 dated 30.11.2011. Presently the following part-time staff are engaged:

(1) Coordinator

            (2) Assistant Coordinator

            (3) One JRF/SRF

(4) One student Trainee

The following Research Scholars are utilizing the centre for their Ph.D. works:

            (1) Lalrosangpuii , Zoology Department, Mizoram University

(2) S.Thangrimawii, Zoology Department, Mizoram University.

            (3) K.Zosangpuii, Zoology Department, Mizoram University.

            (4). Lalzahawmi Chenkual, Environmental Science Dept. MZU.

Main activities Biotech Hub:

(1) Basic research in Biotechnology

            (2) Organize Training programmes to College Teachers & students

(3) Outreach programmes to Higher Secondary School students

The Biotech Hub of our college also organised a special workshop for college teachers on ‘Techniques in Bio-technology and Bio-informatics’ during 21-23 august 2013 in collaboration with Biotech Hub of Pachhunga University college and State Biotech hub, Mizoram university. Altogether, 28 participants from science colleges across the state participated in this workshop.
