A Legal Awareness Programme on Cybercrime was conducted on 25th March 2025 at Block 3, Computer Science Laboratory, GZRSC. The seminar was jointly organized by the Legal Cell and the Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Mizoram State Legal Services Authority, Aizawl. The event was chaired by Dr. M.S. Dawngliani, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, GZRSC. The objective of the seminar was to raise awareness about the increasing threats of cybercrime and educate participants on legal measures to combat online offenses. The session began with an introduction to the topic, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity and legal literacy in today’s digital world.

The resource person, Dr. David Lalawmpuia, Advocate, delivered an insightful lecture on various types of cybercrime, including hacking, phishing, identity theft, cyberbullying, and financial fraud. He highlighted how cybercriminals exploit digital vulnerabilities and stressed the importance of cybersecurity best practices such as using strong passwords, recognizing phishing scams, and safeguarding personal data. Additionally, he explained legal provisions under the Information Technology Act and the role of law enforcement in tackling cybercrime. He encouraged victims of cyber fraud to report incidents promptly and provided guidance on legal recourse. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. H. Lalchhanhima, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, GZRSC, who expressed gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and participants. The event was highly informative and successfully equipped attendees with crucial knowledge on cyber threats and legal protection mechanisms.
