Overview of the department
Since the inception in the year 1980, BSc Home Science course has been running along with the other department. It now runs in semester mode. The course was first updated in 2015. The revised syllabus will be followed from the new Academic session. The course is of 3 years duration with two semesters in each year. Each year is divided into two semesters. The first academic year comprise of the 1st and 2nd semesters, the 2nd academic year - 3rd and 4th semesters and the 3rd academic year - 5th and 6th semesters.
Home Science has 4 streams :
1) Food and Nutrition
2) Clothing and Textile
3) Resource Management
4) Human Development
5) Community Development and Extension Education
There are 24 papers in Home Science, 20 from the streams of Home Science and 4 interdisciplinary papers. The course was framed based on the basis of the guidelines contained in the UGC hand book.
Home Science being an applied science, the syllabus has been structured in such a manner that it equips the student with a general idea of the streams and keeping in mind the unique requirements of BSc Home Science students. Practicals and field experiences are an essential part of the learning process. Laboratory work has been integrated in all areas of Home Science Subjects.
